In order to achieve the Bronze Award students need to complete four sections: volunteering, skills, physical and expedition. The expedition section (when they go camping for a weekend in groups) is the best-known section, and it is the one for which we train and prepare them in College. However, they cannot achieve their Award if they don’t complete all the sections, and this is their responsibility, although your help and support is very important too. The cost of the Award is £80, of which £20 covers enrolment with DofE and £60 covers the cost of the practice and assessed expeditions.
They have the summer to plan which activities to do, and to find suitable assessors. There are plenty of ideas in the DofE official site (https://www.dofe.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/programme_ideas_-_COMPLETE_brief.pdf).
In September, interested students should hand in to a member of the DofE team (myself, Mrs Crosby or Mr Dee) or to the office their completed programme frame by Monday 17/09/2018 in order qualify to do DofE with us at Freman College. We have the capacity to train and support a maximum of 76 students, so it is essential that students who are enrolled have an action plan which makes their completion of the Award feasible. Students who miss the deadline will not be considered. Once all forms are handed in, if there are more than 76 students eligible to take part in the scheme, then places will be awarded by process of a lottery. Once the final list of 76 students has been drawn up, we will contact you to require payment and to fill the DofE enrolment form.
