Next year’s Classics Department trip will take place between 10th and 15th April 2023. The visit will be based in Athens, Delphi and the Peloponnese, and will offer students the chance of visiting many iconic ancient sites.
The trip is open to all students from the current A year and above. There are 40 places for this trip. If more students apply than there are places available, priority will be given to students who are studying or have studied GCSE Latin, and then selection will take place by means of a lottery.
In order to apply for a place on this trip, please complete this form https://forms.office.com/r/9wuaj69H21
It should be mentioned at the outset that a lot of walking will be expected from the students (and staff!) and students should consider this when deciding whether to apply for a place on this trip. There will be a parents’ meeting to discuss issues about the trip closer to the time of departure.
Accommodation will be based on four students sharing a room in 3* hotels in Delphi (one night) and Tolon (4 nights), with breakfast and evening meal provided whilst in Greece. Lunches will not be provided, but there will be opportunities every day to buy lunch either from a shop or from a café.
The total price is £850 which will include the following:
- Return flights to Greece (Athens airport).
- All transfers (UK and Greece).
- Half-board accommodation in Delphi, and Tolon.
- Visit to the Acropolis, Theatre of Dionysus and New Acropolis Museum.
- Coach visits including Mycenae, Corinth Canal, Ancient Corinth, Epidaurus Theatre, and Olympia.
- Fully guided by knowledgeable staff.
What is NOT included:
Food other than breakfast and evening meal, drinks and souvenirs.
- Passport (an individual passport is required per person); please check, if you are not a citizen of the EU, that your son/daughter does not need a visa.
- GHIC medical insurance card.
- Spending money. Students should only need around £100 to cover lunches and drinks.
Your son/daughter will need a valid passport with at least 7 months between the expiry date and the date of the trip. The first deposit of £200 will be payable as soon as a place has been offered, with payment to be made by School Gateway. Once the trip has been booked all payments will be non-refundable.
We propose to collect payment of the remaining balance in six further instalments between May and October 2022. The schedule for each non-refundable payment will be as follows:
£150 – 31st May
£100 – 30th June
£100 – 31st July
£100 – 31st August
£100 – 30th September
£100 – 31st October
If this payment schedule is too challenging for you please contact Ms Hebditch, the Business Manager, to discuss possible alternatives.
As you will be aware, the rules around travel and Covid-19 are constantly evolving. Greece currently requires proof of vaccination status in order to travel to and around the country and to visit certain historical sites. Please only apply to go on this trip if you are willing for your son/daughter to be vaccinated in line with the entry requirements for Greece at the time of the trip as we will not have capacity to be organising and/or administering results from PCR tests for individuals.
